Fancy showing off some culinary flair and brushing up your baking skills? Whether you’re a food fanatic or budding chef, pick up some tasty tips at Outcook Home Cookery School in Alnwick.

Recently opened in the historic Northumberland market town, Outcook offers professional teaching within a home-from-home environment. The school consists of 8 separate high spec hobs, and will be running an array of sessions- covering everything from bread making to prepping game birds. Top regional chefs have been chosen to host the classes, with each one focusing on local produce and independent retailers.

StyleNest sampled the Afternoon Tea session last week, tucking into champagne, caviar and mocha eclairs.  Upon arrival coffee and tea were consumed, while we met and chatted to fellow guests. Sumptuous sandwiches made a welcome surprise to enjoy as we settled in, before proceedings began.  Guided by pastry chefs, the class then learnt how to make (and eat) perfect choux pastry.

The beauty of the class was that it really didn’t matter how basic or advanced your cooking and baking skills were. All abilities are welcome and are made to fee comfortable. The aim of the school is for students to have fun and hopefully learn a few new skills. We left the class full to the brim and armed with goodies.

Classes coming up include; visiting the farmers’ market to buy produce before cooking a 3 course meal, a ‘kids in the kitchen’ afternoon, Northumberland bake off and family fun day. French, Spanish and Italian sessions also complement several specialist fish, meat and vegetarian tutorials.
