Here and elsewhere there are, of course, any number of articles encouraging you to get fitter and move more after the excesses of the Festive season, and to kick-start your year.
This is, of course, laudable; any attempts to make you healthier and happier should be embraced, and aren’t contingent on consumerism.
This brief overview of some newer Nike pieces represents a longer-running obsession.
You don’t have to be an obsessive about Phil Knight’s unrivalled legacy or Tinker Hatfield’s seminal design to get the point with Nike. Those of us who have spent far too much of our time pouring over their products bear testament to that.
Vitally, though, the key to Nike comes in the wearing, and the using of their remarkable kit.
You don’t even have to care that this year they may realise the tech hinted at in Back to the Future, even if in many ways the combination of heritage and futuristic is a perfect metaphor for what they do.
Following is a brief, and certainly not our last look at some current Nike lines for training and beyond; the perfect marriage of form and function.
A decade in, and the game-changing Free Trainer keeps innovating. Recent releases of the OG style have inevitably gone down a storm, and reminded us that functional shoes to support while mimicking shoeless training were another game-changer. This new variation enables better speed and natural motion, while the better balance is great for squats and lifting weights.
The ACG (All Conditions Gear) imprint was responsible for some of the most memorable, revered and missed products Nike ever made; I still hope against hope for them to bring back the Lava Flow from the early 90s. Meantime, their LAB series has brought out a brand new range of state of the art business. This jacket hides removable layers and sleek storage for any eventuality. An insulated liner can be worn separate to the Gore-Tex outer for urban explorers. Another modern ACG classic.
Dri-FIT has proved its value over a variety of sports and activities, offering greater comfort, durability and incredible fit. No surprise that this new running T does exactly the same, keeping you dry and regulating temperature as you exercise.
The major issue here was not the inclusion of the men’s tight, or ‘Might’ as I have seen wags refer to it, now that I am a recent convert to their appeals (under a short, imho). Choosing one item from the new Flash Pack is fraught if you can spend as much time as me looking at such matters, with amazing jackets, trainers and much more. However, these will keep you warm and dry (sweat-wicking, of course), while ensuring you’re visible in low lights for those of you pounding the streets in the winter.
You may be aware of the recent move towards more fitted, stylish tracksuit trousers as fashion rehabilitates this often maligned item for day-to-day wear. The most coveted, swiftest-selling-out of these has inevitably been the Nike tech Fleece pant, which has sold out instantly for recent releases. Now available in a range of colourways, these are worryingly addictive as I can testify, spending as much of my week as possible in one of my pairs. Lightweight warm, great comfort and an amazing fit make these the perfect mix of style and sporting function.
Running shorts which can work for any activity. Built-in boxer briefs keep all suitably supported, sweat-wicking fabric offers unbeatable comfort and great design means you look as good as you (hopefully) feel.
