Covetable – Fred Perry x Nigel Cabourn 1953 Half Zip Training Top

In this age of apparently endless collaborations there are some which make more sense than others, and some which make perfect sense. The tie-up between Fred Perry and Nigel Cabourn fits the latter.

Fred Perry has successfully innovated while staying true to their incredible, cherished heritage, whilst Cabourn is similarly revered for his unique vision, inspiration from classic silhouettes and attention to craftsmanship.

It seems that this collection was borne in part of a shared love for table tennis, Fred Perry’s original calling before the lure of centre court. Regardless of the inspiration, it is full to the brim of wearable modern classics, such as the glorious 1952 pique shirt and this Sports Blazer, inspired by a 1920s piece from Nigel Cabourn’s personal archive.

Arbitrarily, I have plumped for this half zip training top, which itself tips a deferential nod to a classic 1950s Fred Perry shape. Made from fleece-back cotton sweat, with elasticated cuff and hem and Cabourn’s Riri zip in Service Blue, it puts an effortless smart into your casual.

The Fred Perry x Nigel Cabourn 1953 Half Zip Training Top is priced at £150. For the full Fred Perry x Nigel Cabourn Collection, visit www.fredperry.com
