PPR Buys Stake In The Christopher Kane Brand

The fashion world’s ears pricked up this week as it was announced British fashion designer Christopher Kane has part-sold his brand. The Scottish designer has sold 51% of the luxury brand to the French conglomerate PPR Group, who previously have worked wonders on the success of fellow British brands Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen.

Launching just over six years ago, the Christopher Kane brand has grown from strength to strength and is regularly toasted as a highlight of London Fashion Week. However, until now Christopher Kane’s success has been achieved somewhat organically, building up a loyal following from fashion editors and celebrities as well as acquiring more commercial success from collaborations with the likes of Topshop.

The business partnership looks set to take the brand even higher with talk of a London standalone store opening in 2014, a more affordably priced diffusion line and an accessories line launching. The most lucrative being the accessories division – when a brand steps into the luxury bags and shoe market, the sales begin to soar.

The new partnership is sure to change things for the brand and no more so than for Kane himself, who currently operates out of a East London studio with just 26 employees, the most important being his sister Tammy. Tammy is often heralded as the success-maker of the Christopher Kane brand who acts as Christopher’s business partner and is often quoted as his muse.

Kane’s current SS13 collection draws inspiration from the macabre tale of Frankenstein, however executed in the prettiest feminine shades of dusty pinks and soft creams. With the 30 year old, Scottish designer still holding creative control of the brand and a large financial proportion of the company, here’s hoping his collections won’t loose any of their usual charm.
