model wears blue coat and black trousers for John Lewis Womens Modernist trend The trusted, British department store have upped their fashion game this season, as the John Lewis Women AW13 collection and campaign launches in store and online.

John Lewis have launched their new season campaign for Autumn/Winter ’13, and it’s looking chicer and more fashion forward than ever before. Taking some of the season’s biggest trends, from masculine tailoring to minimalism, and making them everyday-worthy, the iconic department store is top of our shopping go-to list this season.

With online shopping becoming even more fuss-free and economical, the British department stores have really had to up their game of late, with John Lewis being a stellar example. Not only are the stores a pleasure to shop in, with many of the womenswear departments having a revamp over the past few seasons, but their online store offers trend-led features, behind the scenes video content, and chic, concise edits.

Our favourite of which being the ‘Modernist.’ Taking lead from the collections of some of fashion’s front-runners, Celine, Richard Nicoll and Stella McCartney, the edit references the masculine shapes, simple cuts and an understated elegance of Autumn/Winter ’13.

A stunning shoot has been created by the John Lewis fashion team to showcase the Modernist edit, with styling by Guardian fashion editor, Jess Cartney-Morley.

“This month’s edit is all about sharpening up your wardrobe,” explains Jess, “with just the right amount of androgyny.”

So, statement pieces such as Hobbs’ cobalt blue Aragon Coat or Gérard Darel’s kilt-inspired tweed skirt can be mixed in with wardrobe staples, such as a silk white tee or black cigarette pants.

Trousers should be slim line and boyish, whilst necklines kept simple like a classic t-shirt cut. The John Lewis shoot has been styled with a slightly 60s vibe – a slightly rock ‘n’ roll textured bob offset with beautiful matte skin and a rebellious smoky eye.

Making the trends of the season wearable, whether it’s work appropriate or weekend worthy, John Lewis has nailed Autumn/Winter ’13 dressing.
