Men’s Fashion: Everything You Need To Look Sharp At A Wedding

It’s officially summer – well, close enough anyway – and that means weddings are abound. Lots of them. I’d put good money on the likelihood that you’re attending one this season; I’m attending two myself! This raises the question of dress code, and men in particular can have a hard time figuring theirs out.

Women generally have an easier time when it comes to choosing formal wear. A lovely dress and a small handbag usually get the job done, and it goes without saying that this perfectly matches the occasion. Men, on the other hand, usually have more of a struggle. Do I wear a blazer or not? Tie or bow tie? Should I wear cufflinks?

So, to curb those fears and put your mind at ease, here’s some food for thought. Or should I say, fashion for thought.

Tie vs. Bow Tie

As a great man once said, bow ties are cool. They’re becoming more and more popular too, with ties proving just too cumbersome and hard to tuck away. If you do opt for a bow tie, a website like Mrs Bow Tie lets you browse a wide catalogue of them. If you do opt for a tie, I’d recommend studying the Windsor Knot. There’s no set rule about which is more suitable at weddings, so choose either. Just don’t go without!

Lace vs. Slip-On Shoes

Unless you’ve got the fit of your pants way, way wrong, you should be able to see your feet. That makes your footwear choice all the more important. For me, there’s a clear winner here, and that’s the lace, for several reasons. No matter how smart they look, slip on shoes will always look informal. That’s the last thing you want at a wedding. Secondly, slip on’s are more prone to… slipping off. Not good when you’re on the dancefloor!

Short Sleeve vs. Long Sleeve Shirt

The summer heat begs this particular question. The only problem is, if you do decide to take that blazer off, you and your short sleeved shirt will look out of place. If the blazer is staying on, a short sleeved shirt would probably be a good bet to reduce the discomfort. However, if you opt for a baggier, light-fitted long sleeved shirt, you’ll fit in better with everyone else. Again, there’s no rule about which length sleeve you need – so experiment.

Watch vs. Cufflinks

It’s important to remember, when choosing a wrist accessory, that you will never roll the sleeves up on your blazer or shirt. And since your watch goes underneath your blazer and your shirt, what’s the point in wearing it? It’ll be hidden from view! Cufflinks, on the other hand, are more easily visible. I’d recommend going with something subtle – something silver, with no jewels. Cufflinks can really make an otherwise bland area of your outfit pop.

So, there you go fellas! You’re officially set for wedding season. Hopefully you gained a step in the right direction with this post, and you’re all set for a fantastic celebration. Enjoy the summer!
