Mary Katrantzou Designs Christmas Tree For The Design Museum London

mary-katrantzou-for-design-museum-christmas-treeLondon Fashion Week designer Mary Katrantzou has teamed up with the Design Museum London to create an exclusive Christmas tree this festive season.

From fashion to fern trees; this festive season London’s Design Museum has enlisted the creative genius of womenswear designer Mary Katrantzou to design a two dimensional Christmas tree.

Measuring 3metres in height, the 2D tree has been mounted onto the outer wall of the South Banks’s Design Museum. Inspired by the show stopping statement prints of Katrantzou’s Autumn Winter 12 collection, the tree features everyday objects from floral garden finds to Christmas themed bows. The Greek born designer builds up images of these objects to create exquisite patterns – taking the mundane to the sublime.

This particular print was part of Katrantzou’s AW12 collaboration with Swarovski and Lesage, and thanks to it’s sparkle and shine inspiration, makes it appropriate for the festive season.

“The print was inspired by formal gardens and artful box parterres, these were layered and overlaid to create an intricate maze-like print reminiscent of a hand embroidered lace motif,” explains the designer.

The Design Museum partnership follows on from a series of Mary Katrantzou collaborations from the likes of accessories label Longchamp, and most notably her 2012 Topshop diffusion line which sold out in the first few days of its release.

If you’re in the Capital this festive season and a fan of London Fashion Week designer, Mary Katrantzou this is a must-see seasonal spot.

The Mary Katrantzou Christmas Tree will be on show at the Design Museum London from 4 December 2012 – 9 January 2013.
