Summer’s not yet arrived and luxury brand Marni already have us lusting after their Foulard Winter 2012 collection. The Italian fashion house’s 2012 winter edition is available to preorder online between 8th – 25th May, meaning you could get your hands on the collection by the beginning as July.
Staying true to Marni’s signature vintage inspired style, the latest collection features quirky prints, unexpected colour combinations and one-off commissioned illustrations. This year Marni’s creative director, Consuelo Castiglioni has enlisted the help of American illustrator Brian Rea to collaborate on a series of t-shirts and bags from the brand’s Marni Uomo and Marni Donna collections. Hailed as one of the most important artist of his generation, Rea’s signature style is unique and hugely identifiable. His simple strokes, heavy use of black and white and sometimes dark subject matter juxtaposed with the busy, feminine and bright aesthetic of Marni works unusually well. Our favourite piece has to be The Runway T-Shirt, which features one of Rea’s quirky prints but still holds an element of luxury with gold buttons on the cuffs and collar.
What strikes us most about winter’s Marni Collection is how very wearable it is. Although on the surface the mix and match of prints looks a little too much, each piece is stylish and practical in its own right. Whether you choose to go for the top-to-toe busy Marni look or just pick one key piece to add to your existing wardrobe, we assure you it’s what you’ll want to be wearing come autumn.
Standout pieces have to be the silk short-sleeved blouses and pleated skirts that just skim the knee. Each design features it’s own print of bold black graphic pattern mixed with flashes of colour in sunshine yellows, pastel pinks and vibrant turquoise. Wear together for a statement look or alone with off-duty denim.
Seeing as summer has decided to take a year off, why not embrace it and skip a season to Marni’s Foulard Collection – a fashion remedy to the wet weather.
