Summer is here … even if the weather doesn’t seem to agree. Hopefully the summer sun will come out soon and last into Autumn to make up for missing out June. Whatever the weather decides to do, it doesn’t mean you can’t show off your summer body and dazzle with some mid-year fashions. If you think your summer wardrobe could do with some extra spice, then read on as I’ve compiled the latest summer trends all in one place.

Neon Sandals

Believe it or not, neon is back and it’ll look especially good in a shade of lime green on your feet. Match up your pedicured feet with a pair of neon sandals and you’ll be the talk of the beach … even the seagulls will be checking you out, but probably because they want your rum and raisin ice cream (we all know how much seagulls love rum and raisin).

Scarves

Continuing their dominance across all seasons, a lightweight patterned scarf is going to make any outfit pop. If the scarf makes you too hot (probably best for evening BBQs if you’re susceptible to heat) then you can always whip it off and use it as a sun shield whilst you absorb the latest beach crime thriller.

‘Slitted’ Maxi Skirts

The famous 60’s dress is being rejuvenated for the 21st century. The slitted variety adds some elegance and summer cool to the maxi dress, with the slits also doubling up to keep you cool as they gently flap in the light beach breeze.

Vintage Designer Glasses

Whether you want some shades or need a new pair of prescription glasses, vintage style glasses can prove to be the perfect accessory to any outfit. Contemporary takes on vintage glasses are becoming bolder and more elegant as the years go on and with the right combination they can make your outfit a certain 10 out of 10! Keep up to date with the latest glasses and sunglasses looks with a pair of cateye, wayfarer or round glasses, just like those John Lennon wore, as the 50s and 60s continue to be a big influence on current fashion.

Blocks of Colour

We touched on this with the sandals, but loud, bright blocks of colour are all the rage this summer season, but make sure you know what you’re doing as this look can very easily backfire. Check the magazines and internet for inspiration on what will look good for your style and skin tone.

Mixed Print

Personally, I’m not a fan of mixed print, but it seems to be very popular this year, especially if you get a cracking bikini with a nice print mix. If you don’t know what this is, it’s essentially two contrasting print styles on one item of clothing, for example, neon coloured stripe and a leopard print mix-match (or mis-match, if you’re like me).

This year’s beaches, whether you’re in Cornwall or Miami will be littered with these looks. Find the ones that work for you and work them up and down the catwalk boardwalk. This season seems to be a mix of loud (the neon colourings) and understated (the maxi dresses), so make sure you know what you’re doing and you’ll be pulling all the looks.
