Celia Birtwell Launches Exclusive Collection With Uniqlo

Celia Birtwell for Uniqlo - model wears grey polka dot jumpsuitIconic British designer Celia Birtwell has joined forces with high street favourite, Uniqlo this season for an exclusive capsule collection.

Another high street collaboration hits stores this spring as cult 60s and 70s designer Celia Birtwell announces an exclusive collaboration with Uniqlo.

Hitting stores on March 21 2013, the capsule collection comprises t-shirts, vests, shirts, pyjama pants, tote bags and more, all brought to life by the designer’s signature prints.

One-time wife to celebrated designer Ossie Clark, Celia Birtwell has dressed some of the world’s biggest style icons from Mick and Bianca Jagger to Jimi Hedrix. It’s safe to say Birtwell is firmly engrained in Britain’s style heritage, but she took a hiatus from fashion for over two decades before bouncing back with a sell-out capsule collection for Topshop in 2006.

The latest collection with Japanese high street store, Uniqlo will again bring the designer’s style to a younger audience. Taking some of her most iconic prints, from the 17th Century inspired Beasties fabric found by Celia in the V&A archive, to her iconic and adorable Cat Print, and working them into fuss-free, wearable shapes Uniqlo has become known for.

With 60s being one of SS13’s biggest trends thanks to Louis Vuitton and Moschino, the Celia Birtwell x Uniqlo collection could not have come at a better time.

Standout piece of the collection has to be the 70s inspired polka dot jumpsuit, as seen on British model Portia Freeman in the collection’s stunning ad campaign. We’ll be wearing ours come summer with chunky wooden wedges and a floppy hat.

The Celia Birtwell x Uniqlo collection hits stores from March 21 2013. Prices start from £9.90.
