Back by Ann-Sofie Back at Asos

ann-sofie back aw12Back by Ann-Sofie Back is the latest cutting edge diffusion line to hit Asos’ AW12 collection this season.

Ann-Sofie Back is huge fashion news. She adds to the growing list of Swedish exports taking over the London streetwear scene with vigour.  Following in the footsteps of Acne, Carin Wester and Cheap Monday, her latest collection cements her status as the queen of Swedish cool.

Brought up in the suburbs of Stockholm, Back studied at Beckman’s College of Design before completing an MA at Central Saint Martins. She launched her Atelier label in 2001, followed by her more accessible diffusion line, Back in 2005.

Back’s eponymous designs are unified by her use of interesting and intricate silhouettes, bold colours and a sense of humour, all making for extremely functional and wearable items. Not content with just one role, Ann-Sofie Back is also creative director of denim brand Cheap Monday, as well as stylist and fashion editor for urban magazines Self Service and Purple. Noted fans of her designs include Chloe Sevigny and Daisy Lowe.

Her latest AW12 collection for Back does not disappoint. It stays true to the functionality and wearability of previous collections, focusing on the construction of the pieces. Using a monochrome palette interspersed with shots of bright turquoise; Back is a collection dying to be worn.

Highlights of the collection include the cable knit jumper with zip detailing, taking a classic winter staple and infusing it with a dose of edgy Swedish cool.  Likewise, the day dresses are sporty, yet chic, taking you from day to night with absolute ease. Thrown over a pair of jeans, or with tights and ankle boots, these dresses offer serious statement potential. An array of stunning black dresses with lace trimmings are also on our wish list, with the metallic pouch bags they’re a playful accompaniment to any AW12 ensemble.

The Back by Ann-Sofie Black collection is available now at ASOS.com.
