THE REEBOK MUSCLE MELT AT THE RE:SPA

hot stone massage on woman's back StyleNest headed to the Re:SPA at the Reebok Sports Club in London’s Canary Wharf, to review one of their signature spa treatments, the Reebok Muscle Melt.

There’s something a little ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ about the Reebok Sports Club. Firstly, it’s sat smack bang in the middle of London’s finance mecca that is Canary Wharf, where the city’s high flyers and moneymakers come to make the world go round.

The club itself sits on the second floor of the area’s famous shopping centre, but inside it looks more like a five-star hotel. The reception area is a grand, circular affair with suited, smiling staff on hand to help in its centre– no polo shirt and shorts uniforms here.

Suits come and go, practically everyone has a gym-honed body and there’s even ironing stations in the changing rooms to ensure your Thomas Pink isn’t creased post-workout. You’re half expecting a pumped up Leo DiCaprio to appear from the steam room.

Within the sports club sits the Re:SPA.There’s a beauty shop that stocks some great brands from bareMinerals Makeup to Aromatherapy Associates, as well as a manicure station for lunchtime quick fixes. Beyond this, are the relaxation room and a number of treatment rooms offering everything from massage to facials.

Once inside the spa, the atmosphere changes dramatically. The buzz of Canary Wharf feels a million miles away; it’s as peaceful and tranquil as any other luxury spa you’d find in any other part of the city.

Robed and ready, we’re led to our treatment room to sample one of the Re:SPA’s signature treatments, The Reebok Muscle Melt.

The treatment uses a combination of Aromatherapy Associates essential oils, deep massage techniques and hot stones to ease muscle tension, aches and pains. We explain to the therapist that our upper back and shoulders have been giving us problems of late thanks to hours at the computer, so she promises to give that area extra attention.

The treatment starts on the back, firstly by deep and cross massaging the muscles using a combination of Aromatherapy Associates’ hero products, from essential oils to De-Stress Muscle Gel. After this, areas of particular attention are worked out with hot stones. We could see immediately why the treatment is named the ‘muscle melt’, and although a little uncomfortable to start with on our tender aches and pains, as each area was worked in we could literally feel the tension melt away.

The Re Spa reception areaAfter 10minutes we could feel ourselves drifting off into a hazy slumber. The most wonderful thing about this bespoke massage was that it took us hardly no time at all to relax and get into the treatment – quite often the pressure is too strong or not hard enough, the treatment bed isn’t quite as comfortable as you’d hoped, or the techniques and products are just not tailored enough to your needs. The Muscle Melt was none of these, most notable due to the use of the hot stones.  Not only where they physically soothing for our muscles, but the warm, natural heat allowed us to truly relax.

After 50minutes, our muscles top-to-toe felt utterly renewed. Yes, there was still a glimmer of an ache in our tense shoulders but that was due to the severity of their tightness pre-treatment.

This is one treatment that does exactly what it claims to do. And if it can melt away our tense shoulders and the woes of Canary Wharf’s investment bankers, then we’re utterly sold.

The Reebok Muscle Melt is priced at £69.00 for 50mins.
