Mineral House Spa Newcastle

Crowne Plaza HotelStyleNest recently enjoyed a spa day at Mineral House, part of the Crowne Plaza hotel in Newcastle.

Stepping into the Mineral House Spa, it is a basement level retreat from the bustling city outside. We were met at reception by a lovely spa team, showing us round the facilities which include; state of the art gym, spa pool, feature pool, steam room, pool side lounging area, spa treatment rooms and a relaxing waiting area.

Given robes and slippers, we went to get changed before exploring the stunning pool area. Taking a dip in the 10 metre feature pool, there’s more than enough room for a swim before venturing into the adjacent relaxing spa pool. Taking time to enjoy the steam room, the spa is relaxed yet vibrant, with a cool urban feel.  We noticed both hotel guests and spa day visitors around us, indicating how ideal Mineral House is for an inner city treat.  The adjacent gym plays host to Technogym machines, including cardio and resistance equipment as well as a free weights area.

Onto our treatments and we enjoyed an Aromatic Back Massage and Dreamy Legs.  Both lasting 25 minutes, I chose Dreamy Legs as it just sounded a bit different. A rejuvenating and relaxing treatment, I was treated to leg exfoliation and massage afterwards, all using baobab oil. The therapist applied a cooling, soothing menthol gel which refreshed my legs, making them feel much lighter. Ideal for post-winter tiredness, I’d really recommend this as a spring spa treatment and can see how it’d be a lovely pre-holiday boost too.

My other half had the Aromatic Back Massage with the therapist working through the tension in his back using customised oils. A busy father of 2, he went for the Active option which combines spearmint, clary sage and cinnamon leaf. Totally blissed out after the massage, I think next time he would go for the longer version of this treatment as he enjoyed it so much.

Truly relaxed after treatments and time within the spa, we headed upstairs to Hawthorns Brasserie, also within the Crowne Plaza itself. A bright and airy space, we tucked into the Fast & Fresh lunch menu.  I picked the Togarashi Salmon Salad, which was a blend of peppers, scallions, fresh mango, rocket, soba noodles and Korean dressing. An absolute delicious dish, my mouth is watering from reminiscing as I write.

The Mr selected Pumpkin Tortellini, comprising roasted butternut squash, baby spinach, sage and green pesto dressing. A colourful concoction, I could have happily eaten this alongside my salad, and I know my husband heartily enjoyed his meal.

Leaving Mineral House and Hawthorns, we felt full of tasty food and totally relaxed, ready to return for another day of spa bliss soon.

The day we enjoyed at Mineral House typically costs £69pp, with spa days on offer starting at £50pp including food.
