For me, the most beneficial time to visit a high-end hair salon is post summer. When the days start getting shorter and your sun-kissed skin begins to pale, you are often left with sun parched hair that doesn’t match your complexion. No matter what colour your hair is and whether dyed or natural, the sun naturally depletes pigment and tone (unless you are very well behaved and wear a hat throughout the entire summer) this looks great in the sun against bronzed skin but come winter it can end up looking a dry, faded mess.
The long-serving team at John Frieda are, of course, very adept at all the latest skills and techniques to keep your hair looking current and fresh, it is the perfect place to go when you need to get your tresses back on track. Colour specialist, Carmel, totally transformed my faded, highlighted hair into a glossy rich mane in the space of just a few hours! She used high-lift tint to highlight, which is much kinder to hair than bleach, she then used the ‘bat’ technique to add a few natural darker shades to replace depth and texture removed by the sun (the ‘bat’ technique is a freehand way of adding colour only to where it’s needed) and for a bit of extra spark, Carmel added some Balayage colour to the ends.

Balayage (pronounced bal-ee-arj) is chunky ribbons of a lighter colour that blend naturally into the ends of your hair.
Ombre is a more defined difference in colour at the ends, usually much lighter than the hair at the root and with less graduation.

Carmel also added the wonder product, Olaplex to my colour to protect my hair from further dryness (Olaplex acts like a buffer between the colour and your hair to help prevent colour damage). A rare and wonderful bonus at John Frieda is that they are not committed to any 1 particular brand, so they can really pick and choose the best-suited products for you and your needs.
Now for the piece de resistance! The ‘no-brush blow dry’! Demonstrated by the wonderful Jeffery (whom I highly recommend for any manner of blow dry!) you can achieve a modern, soft-wave result with some skilful pinning, gentle heat and minimal tonging. Obviously you are still using some heat but overall it is a much, much gentler way of styling your hair and the results are un-done gorgeousness!
