People who think that acne disappears after you are teen are mistaken. As this article says, around 80% of individuals will have an acne breakout at some point in their lives. And the skin condition can continue for some people way into their 30’s, 40’s and even 50’s. Here are some of the reasons why you may be suffering from acne as an adult.

Pregnancy

One thing you should check when you start suffering from acne problems is whether you’re pregnant. As your hormones are all over the place, you can start developing skin issues. It typically happens in your first semester and is often worse in people who have had issues with acne previously. Before taking any medication, you need to check with a doctor, as there are many medications that you can’t take when you are pregnant. Hopefully, it will pass as you enter the second trimester.

Polycystic ovary syndrome

One of the most common reasons for acne in adults is because they are suffering from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). It is where your hormones are out of balance, meaning you are likely to experience irregular periods, extra hair, and acne. You can try different acne creams to see if they will work. You may need to see the doctor who may try you on some oral tablets to help the condition. The unfortunate thing about acne is you can end up with marks on your face. You may want to see a Dermatologist such as Belcara Health, to look into different treatments to hide the marks left over.

No Daily Care

A lot of people can start having acne as an adult because they are not providing their skin with daily care. You should be at least washing your face twice a day to help curb your issue with acne. You should also be moisturising every day to help protect your skin from breakouts. You can get some great cleansers which can help to clear your skin. Just make sure you don’t irritate your skin further. Check with the doctor before you buy any products, as they might not be suitable for your skin issues.

Bad diet

Another reason why you may be suffering from acne is that you are eating a bad diet. If you eat a lot of foods which are full of sugar and fat, you may notice breakouts start appearing. Try and stick to a healthier diet to help you have clearer skin. You need to watch what you are drinking too. If you are drinking fizzy drinks, you could be making your skin worse. Stick to water which will help hydrate your face, and make it glow.

Stress

Stress causes your body to start suffering from a lot of issues, one of these being acne. As your body is stressed, it can increase your hormone level meaning the amount of oil can increase, which can make acne occur. A lot of people start touching their face when they are nervous which can make it worse. You need to try and keep calm and relax your body. Once the stress has passed, you will notice your skin improves.

Remember to talk to your doctor or a skin specialist about any signs you may have acne.
