Lanolips Top Tips

LanolipsWe’ve teamed up with Lanolips Creator Kirsten Carriol to bring you her top tips for keeping your lips hydrated.

During a cold snap our lips can really suffer, so Kirsten shares her advice for softening and smoothing, ideal for that perfect Valentine’s Day pout.

  • Central heating not only zaps moisture from the air but from everything in the room – including skin and lips, drying them out, which can cause them to chap and crack if you don’t replace the moisture yourself & protect the lips.  Using a lip product is vital because your lips don’t have oil glands, so cannot self-hydrate.
  •  If you have dry lips don’t be tempted to lick them, the digestive juices in your saliva also dry your lips out, making them worse.
  • Once your lips are cracked and chapped, the horny dead dry skin layer can also prevent any lip products from really penetrating properly which can cause a vicious cycle of dryness that becomes hard to break, which is why it’s important to stop them from getting chapped in the first place.
  • If you do get this horny chapped layer, don’t scrub your lips as this will make the fragile skin damaged and worse.  Layer something with a gentle exfoliant ingredient (like our Lemonaid (12.5grms, £8.99) with citric lemon oil) onto the lips, and then after your shower when your lips are wet, rub them gently with a towel to rub away any skin that is ready to go and then slather on a layer of 101 Ointment (15g, from £11.00) before your lips are completely dry to trap the moisture back in with 100% ultra-medical grade lanolin. You may need to repeat this for a few days to fully return the lips to tip top condition.
  • Overnight while you are sleeping, it is particularly important to layer your lips in a thick layer of 101 Ointment, and areas of dry skin with Golden Ointment (50grms, 17.99) formulated for Dry Winter Skin – with 60% lanolin it’s a super duper rich hydrator and protectant for those dry itchy colder months. It also has vitamin E which is a great skin conditioner, and Manuka Honey which is a natural healer. I use it on my legs and feet every night as a mask.
