Beauty Tip: How To Combat Dark Circles

Clinique’s Executive Director of Skin Physiology and Pharmacology gives us his top tips to combat and prevent dark circles.

“Dark circles can accompany puffy eyes because they share many of the same causes including the thinness of the skin around the eyes, allergies, fluid retention, lack of sleep, dehydration, irritation but also include UV exposure and genetics.

“Genetics can play a major role in determining whether or not you will be affected by dark circles. However, there are additional lifestyle aggressors that can lead to dark circles. Dark circles can be caused by certain nutritional deficiencies in your diet, such as iron. They can also be a result of melanin deposits which can be seen through the thin skin around the eyes. Poor circulation around the eye area can also cause build up of toxins or redness also leading to dark circles.  If coupled with bone structure or deep set eyes, dark circles can be exacerbated.

“Clinique All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage is a great liquid gel-serum for anyone who’s tired of hearing “you look tired.”

Clinique All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye MassageFirst, the formula helps cool the skin around the eyes making it feel more refreshed. The rolling motion of the ball gently massages the skin allowing a decrease in toxins and increase in circulation. Circulation helps increase blood flow in the eye area thus helping to reduce the appearance of puffiness and dark circles. Finally, the burst of hydration helps relieve under-eye circles, brightens the eye area and makes the skin around the eyes less translucent – which can make dark circles less apparent.”  Dr Tom Mammone
