Beauty Tip: Get the Derek Lam Look with Estée Lauder AW13

StyleNest team up with Estée Lauder Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux to bring you the latest beauty looks of makeup and nails seen at the Derek Lam Fall 2013 runway show.

To create the look needed for the Derek Lam AW13 show on 10 February 2013, Tom Pecheux directed a team of 13 makeup artists as well as manicurist Jin Soon Choi.

Tom created a sophisticated and fresh faced look featuring bold metallic shimmers with accents of rich brown and burgandy.

“The beauty look Derek Lam and I created for the Fall 2013 show is a sophisticated, minimal urban hippie – playing off of Derek’s inspirational mood board and the textures and colours of the fabrics in his collection.  The focus is on the eyes and the lips.  I placed a highlight of metallic shimmer in the centre of the eyelid, to make it appear very flat, like a two-dimensional painting on a canvas.  The saturated stain on the lips is very strong and intense – a mix of brown, maroon and burgundy.  The skin is very fresh and iridescent, a satin-matte texture”. – Tom Pecheux

Skin

For the skin, Tom used Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex and applied it all over the face and throat to ensure a smooth and radiant base for makeup. Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum Infusion was applied to reduce the appearance of fine lines, dark circles and puffiness before Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator was applied to help even skin tone and reduce blotchiness and blemish marks. Lastly, DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant Creme Broad Spectrum SPF 15 was used to help to protect and defend the skin in preparation for makeup application.

Face

For a feather light foundation with up to 15-hours of wear, Double Wear Light Stay-in-Place Makeup was applied for a fresh and natural sheer finish. It allows the skin to breathe and doesn’t melt off the face, making it ideal for the bright lighting in the catwalk show.

Eyes

The focus of the look is the shimmering eyes which will make an opulent statement this AW13. Pecheux used Pure Color Instant Intense EyeShadow Trio in Smoked Chrome at the left and centre of the lid as well as blending Pure Color Instant Intense EyeShadow Trio in Steel Lilacs (both launching in September 2013). To create deeper intensity, Tom blended this with Pure Color Instant Intense EyeShadow Trio in Sterling Plums in the centre of the lid for a luminous gradient effect.

Lips

To recreate the just bitten soft berry lip used in the Derek Lam show, use Pure Color Vivid Shine Lipstick in Burnished Bronze, followed by a lick of Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer in Electric Wine (both launching in August 2013).

Nails

Carrying over from SS13 nude nail trend seen at Daks, DNKY and Mary Katrantzou, Jin Soon Choi for Estée Lauder created a range of clean looks for the nails using Pure Color Nail Lacquer in So Vain and Nudité (launching in March 2013).
