Prominent fashion couple Isabel and Ruben Toledo have teamed up with beauty powerhouse Mac to create a unique and colourful new 2015 collection. The range includes 11 items, including eye shadow palettes, mascaras and nail polishes.
Isabel Toledo is an award-winning fashion designer – perhaps most well-known for designing Michelle Obama’s inaugural dress in 2009 – whilst her husband Ruben is a renowned artist. Isabel has put her creative eye to good use by personally selecting the bold and vibrant colours of the collection, and Ruben’s illustrations adorn the packaging. Each item features a sketched female face with bold red lips, effectively setting the precedent for the six red lipsticks included in the range.
According to Mac, “the collection of irreverent colour [is] designed to inspire endless play”, and playful and youthful it definitely is: the collection doesn’t shy away from daring colours in unexpected places. From the lime green mascara to a neon yellow eye shadow, each piece is perfect for the experimental beauty lover. However there are some items suitable for the more classic or neutral fans among us too, such as nude Lip Glasses and soft, shimmering eye shadows.
Here at StyleNest, our personal highlight is the eye shadow palette “Violet Wink” – a collection of six soft, pink-toned shades ranging from the light and angelic “Sweet Allure” to the dramatic, amethyst “overnight”. However the stand-out shadow on this palette has to the bright, iridescent, almost 80’s glam pink “Stars N Rockets”, with has a near metallic sheen – perfect for adding some spice to an otherwise plain outfit.
Other favourites include the Modern Twist Lash in “Caligrafy”, a glittering, sumptuous navy for a slight twist on classic black. Complete the look with the Lip Glass in “Nude Awakening” – a thick and creamy lip gloss to enhance the natural shade of your lips.
