You’re making me blush

Anyone else finding this incessant cold is making them look, rather than rosy cheeked and healthy, pasty and chilly? The only part of me that’s red is my chilblainy fingers. So I’ve dug out some blusher for the school run because if I carry on like this, people will be asking if I’m OK. If they can see me underneath the four jumpers, snood and hat…

First up is from Clarins’ gorgeous new spring makeup collection called Garden Escape. They’ve added the shade ‘Sweet Rose’ to their Blush Prodige Illuminating Cheek Colour palette range (£26). This colour is just perfect for winter – it’s so subtle and flattering and just a quick swirl round with a brush on the apple of your cheek is all you need to save you from looking like the ghost of Christmas past.

Another new palette is from Clinique: Sculptionary Cheek Contouring (£28.00) comes in Defining Nectars, Defining Roses, Defining Berries and Defining Nudes and is available from 6th February. You might have noticed the ‘contouring’ trend, and although I like a bit of highlighter artfully placed, I’m not really into that. But the great thing about this is that you can use it for contouring, but also sweep your brush around (this one is Defining Berries) and use it as a wonderful regular blusher.

I’m not just about the pink. A corally tone is a great pick-me-up on sallow winter complexions and my new favourite is this gorgeous little number from Autograph at M&S: Pure Luxe Multi-Blusher in Soft Coral (£12.50). How pretty? It’s limited edition so I suggest you grab one when you’re buying your next batch of 100 denier opaques.

If you prefer fingertips to a brush, this purse-friendly little number from Essence is a cracker: Soo blush! Cream to Powder Blush (£2.80). Because it’s a cream-to-powder you can pat it on with your fingers but it finishes like a powder rather than sliding off and looking all Aunt Sally. I like the ‘Everything is better in pink’ – and the fact that it is under three quid, but you would never guess.

Finally, something rather special from Studio 10 on Cult Beauty – Plumping Blush Glow-Plexion (£24). This is made for dull old January. A suits-all shade puts life into your face while light reflective pearls boost radiance. Oh and it smoothes fine lines too. Love it.
