Summer Hair Game-changers

I’m not talking about switching over from the tennis to the football. What I mean is that the combination of warm weather and a lack of TLC in favour of watching the World Cup with a glass of rosé have taken their toll on my hair.

I don’t need a new shampoo, or a fancy masque. I need a game-changer. A serious treatment to stop me entering autumn with people saying, as Phoebe did to Monica in Friends, “Knock that dog off her head”… Here are my top five.

Aveda’s new Smooth Infusion (£21.50) uses plant derived fibres and natural ingredients like cassava to hold hair straight and make styling easier. Apparently, it progressively straightens hair with every use, but I didn’t really test it like that because I only blow dry my hair about one wash in ten as it’s such a curly fiddle. What I did like about this though was the relaxing, frizz-busting effect it had on my hair. Very nice indeed.

Envy Dual Fix 12 (£19.95) sounds like a kind of American vampire TV series but it’s actually a work of genius. It’s basically a salon treatment you can do at home, with all sorts of fancy keratin and silk protein stuff in. But all you do is put it on dry hair and then heat activate it by drying with your hair dryer, then washing as normal. Your hair is super-soft afterwards, and tangle free. This is what I mean by ‘game-changer’.

Next up is from Michael Van Clarke’s 3 More Inches range – Life Saver (£19.50). Now I wouldn’t be too happy if this was under my seat on a plane but it is a veritable hero in hot weather when you need a leave-in conditioner with all the power but none of the weight. Lovely big spray too.

Free From Frizz is a new brand also offering the ‘home blow dry’ treatment, this time called the ‘6 Week Blowout’. It’s a one-off heat treatment that comes with a shampoo and conditioner (£26.97). I like the packaging, I like the ease, and the frizz is definitely gone.

Finally, a little something for when you get back from holiday, skint but with your hair in a pickle. Revlon Professional Interactives After Sun Hydra Balm (£9.99). You get change from a tenner and results are as game-changing as I want on my poodle-head.
