Something Rather Revealing

Surely, next month, spring is finally going to arrive, and we are all going to leap enthusiastically from our beds of a morning and feel vital and gorgeous again, instead of wandering about under five jumpers eating carbs and drinking wine. Or is that just me?

As part of this metamorphosis into a spring goddess, I shall be enlisting some facial scrubs, to slough off those wintery dead skin cells. Don’t be scared of facial scrubs. They’ve come a long way since the fruit stones of the 80s and won’t scratch – but will speed up cell metabolism and generally boost your complexion.

Here are my top five.

Super Facialist by Úna Brennan was, as you can probably guess, created by Irish facialist and skincare specialist Úna Brennan. The brand is getting rave reviews and no wonder – everything I’ve tried is gorgeous. Rose Hydrate Brighten & Refine Facial Scrub (£8.99) is delicate enough for sensitive skin but is a bona-fide polisher – I was touching my cheeks all day because I couldn’t believe how soft my skin felt.

When I want a harder-working alternative to a cleanser in the morning, I reach for Dr Lewinn’s Facial Polishing Gel (£26). This has a gorgeous, slightly mango-like scent and is only slightly abrasive, making it great when you’ve had a couple of small sherries the night before. Nothing too unsettling, but enough to get your glow back.

Now for something more creamy. Yon-Ka’s Guarana Scrub (£32) smells so unbelievably posh and spa-like you can’t help but love it even before it’s got to work. When it does, it leaves skin embarrassingly smooth thanks to the brown rice micro-beads, alongside soothing calendula and chamomile. Lush.Yon-Ka’s Guarana Scrub

I’ve liked the idea of a little pot of exfoliator you can mix with a cleanser ever since I got one with my Emma Hardie kit. Pukka Nourishing Brightener (£13) contains freshly ground bilberries and almond but isn’t gritty at all – it is however really versatile and my go-to if my skin is about to break out.

Finally, something lovely from Jurlique: Daily Exfoliating Cream (£13.95). The reason you can use it every day is because it’s not granular, more porridge-esque in texture, but in a good way. Just enough to gently slough off the winter – now who doesn’t want a bit of that right now?
