She has a halo

It’s been a bad day for my hair. And by day, I mean week. And by bad, I mean horrendous. Because, replacing the drying combination of cold winds and central heating, there is a new adversity to deal with – dampness.

The result is an attractive kind of ‘double head’ look. I have my actual hair – curly, and that’s fine. Then, if you catch me in the wrong light, I have another hairstyle sitting just above it – frizz, forming a halo about two inches around my actual hair. Except there’s nothing angelic about it. So here’s what I’m using to get back to one hairstyle…

KMS TameFrizz

First up is this KMS shampoo from their new TAMEFRIZZ range (available on BeautyBay.com from 31st May). If you want to banish frizz, there’s no point leaving it until your styling product – start with your shampoo, like this one which preps the hair by smoothing the cuticle and leaves that lovely salony KMS scent. The whole range is fabulous in fact, well worth checking out next week.

Yuko Anti Frizz

I’ve picked a conditioner from another brand although you might prefer to use a whole range and have the products ‘work together’. (Although I’m not sure that they would know.) Anyway, this is Anti-frizz by Yuko, and I love the Conditioner (£12.50), which contains beeswax and meadowfoam, smells delicious and detangles even my knots: no mean feat.

Ouidad Climate Control Frizz Tamer

Another recent find is Ouidad – a range designed for people with curly hair, which I was very happy to stumble on. It’s great stuff: I haven’t been this excited about a new brand for ages. Their Climate Control Frizz & Flyaway Fighter Taming Shine Spray (£17.25) is perfect for my frizz issues, as it doesn’t weigh down my fine hair, just smoothes it. A new staple.

LiquidGlass Anti-Frizz Smoothing Styling Gel

After combing through the Ouidad, I’ve been smoothing on another new discovery: LiquidGlass Anti-Frizz Smoothing Styling Gel (£7.95). A gorgeous, super-light blend of natural oils, this seems to banish the halo-head in seconds and you can even use it between washes.

Philip Kingsley Weatherproof Hairspray

Finally, a finishing product that is perfect for your handbag: Philip Kingsley Weatherproof Hairspray (£6.95 for the mini 60ml size; larger sizes available). If you thought hairspray was for nights out or old ladies, think again. A quick spritz of this in the loos at work and you will look like you just have the one hairstyle again: phew.
