No One Will Ever Know

After the age of 35, beauty becomes less about enhancement and more about trouble-shooting. And when you find yourself on the wrong side of a bottle of Syrah, you might find yourself with even more troubles than usual.

Thankfully, just in time for the party season, I have a few stealthy quick fixes that will allow you to emerge, phoenix-like, from the ashes of your over-consumption. And no one will ever know that inside all you can think about is getting back under the duvet.

A new addition to my makeup bag is Optrex Eyedew Dazzling Eye Drops (£2.99). Apparently a favourite of Katy Perry, who I believe knows how to partayyy, they contain a blue ingredient to make the whites of your eyes look even whiter. Or in my case, just actually white.

Still in the eye area, I am very smitten with Pixi’s Eye Bright Primer (£12.50). It’s designed to be used as a base for makeup but I also use it alone, as it has a magical brightening effect on the eyes, evening out skin tone and banishing shadows. Love the sponge-tipped click applicator too – a doddle to apply.

One last quick fix for your eyes: lose the Tory politician style brows. I am thoroughly enjoying Lavera Trend Sensitive Organic Style and Care Gel (£10.50) which not only holds eyebrows in place, it contains ingredients such as organic liquorice root and sea buckthorn to give them a natural shine. Slick on the gel with a mascara style wand, then shape brows with the brush.

I always seem to get spots when I’ve been on the sauce, but I am no longer fretting about this, because I have discovered the HoMedics Tanda Zap (£40). It looks like a little torch and emits a blue light that you place over a spot, either when it’s coming or already ‘established’. It is ‘clinically proven to clear or fade blemishes within 24 hours’. And the exciting thing is that it actually does. Genius.

Finally, some glamour. A bit of red lippie will distract from everything else and make you feel a bit more sassy.

Lipstick Queen

But go for something like my current favourite – Lipstick Queen Saint Sheer Lipstick (£15) which gives a moisturising sheer finish, with enough colour to pep up your face and make your (red wine stained) teeth look whiter, but not so much that you look like an ageing Hollywood starlet.
