Meet my summery serums

No, not a tongue-twister. Now that the central heating has gone off until the autumn and the artic winds have let up for a few months, my skin is feeling a lot different. I don’t need the ultra nourishing products that helped me get through January.

Instead, I’m all about the summer serums – light layers under my moisturiser that will give me a bit of oomph for the warmer months without turning me into an oil slick when it gets hot and sticky. I’m also after a couple that will undo any sun damage I might inflict if I’m not super-careful. Are you in? Here are my top five.

First up is brand new from Origins: Original Skin (£32). Apparently it’s a serum for your #QuarterLifeCrisis. My quarter life crisis took place long before hashtags were invented but I am loving this dullness busting, imperfection-blurring little genius first thing in the morning and I suggest you all try it too.

Clinique have a cracker of a serum in their amazing Turnaround range (also check out the new Turnaround Daytime Revitalizing Moisturizer). It’s called Turnaround Revitalizing Serum (£37) and it’s oil-free, and gives skin a ready-for-summer, go-without-foundation boost.

The summer is a time when I’m most likely to break out, thanks to SPFs forming an extra layer on my face that my skin gets a bit grumpy about. My new favourite serum to deal with troubled skin is Your Truly Organics Fix Me! Repairing Serum (£28), which contains oat kernel to smooth and repair, and sesame seed extract and saw palmetto to reduce inflammation caused by blemishes.

Skyn Iceland was created by Sarah Kugelman who travelled to Iceland when she was suffering from stress. The range is aimed at stressed out skin and is inspired by the pure, unspoiled waters, air and plants of Iceland. Perfect for skin that’s been stressed by sun, Arctic Elixir (£40) contains a peptide derived from plant stem cells that combats stress-induced signs of ageing.

Last but not least is my go-to for when the summer has left me feeling leathery: Crystal Clear Intense Anti-Ageing Serum (£60). I use this at night after I’ve been outdoors all day with the kids and it’s a great restorer when you’ve let that combination of British sun and wind leave you feeling like you could easily be made into a handbag.
