Goodbye, mummy tummy

It’s over. I’ve drawn a line in the sand with my new running shoes and over the last few months I’ve been on a quest to rediscover a level of bodily firmness last seen in 2007.

Now I’m under no illusions that a product designed for tummies is going to make mine flatter without putting some other work in. But I’ve tested a few over the summer and I’m happy to say they do seem to be assisting in my firmness quest. Here are the five best.

From Nip+Fab is Tummy Fix (£19.25). In spite of the word ‘fix’ in the name (I don’t need ‘fixing’, I had kids, that’s all…), it doesn’t over-promise and instead includes bitter orange and lecithin to improve skin tone and texture around the abdominal area. Love the packaging and love the non-sticky, fresh-scented gel.

Oriflame’s offering is called Tight Tummy (£15.95). What appealed to me about this is the use of the word ‘slack’ in the descriptor. And I am noticing a definite improvement in that issue around the old tummy button, which is one of the worst hit areas when you’ve carried big babies.

Loving Mio at the moment now that I’m on a firm up mission – their ‘fit skin’ products go alongside an exercise regimen but they’re more ‘spa’ than ‘Deep Heat’ if you know what I mean. Get Waisted (£35) has seven actives and if you put the time in with some ab work on that mat and some daily tum massaging with this bad boy, you will see a difference. Impressed.

Spa Find is a new brand to me but I was excited to try them as they do treatments at some of the best spas in the country. Inchwrap Firming Gel (£25.30) is an at-home treatment, which contains a right little power-pack of caffeine, spirulina, soy, natural ivy extract, dead sea minerals and hyaluronic acid. A great one for tummy cellulite. Yes, there is such a thing.

Finally, my beloved Thalgo, who know a thing or two about bodycare. Their Stomach and Waist Sculptor (£45) is apparently for ‘women with unwanted curves around the stomach area’. Curves I could live with – flabbiness, not so keen. Thankfully this plankton-packed beauty makes light work of any knicker overhang. Am I too late for a bikini this year?
