Get your five a day

Fruity beauty used to mean a scary lemon peel-off facial masque, or if you were lucky, talk of the fact that an avocado might have been near your shampoo. Which it probably hadn’t.

These days, brands have cottoned onto the antioxidant and other beautifying ingredients of fruit in their products to give us gorgeously-scented bath, shower and skincare products that not only smell like the fruit they’re meant to, they actually deliver the benefits too. Here’s what’s in my summer fruit bowl…

Jo Malone Grapefruit Bath Oil

You might have stepped away from a soak in the tub during the recent heatwave but a cool bath is actually a great way to ease hot achey limbs after a day running about in the sun. My summer bath product of choice has been Jo Malone’s Grapefruit Bath Oil (£38) which not only fills the house with a divinely citrusy scent, it has spicier, herby notes of rosemary and patchouli to stop it being too ‘tinned segments in natural juice’, if you know what I mean.

Jason Glowing Apricot Body WashIf you’re more in a shower kind of place, try Jason Natural Body Wash in Glowing Apricot (currently £7.50). This is a real find: free from parabens, SLS or phthalates, it comes in a huge (800ml) pump dispenser and is perfect for the whole family, even the smallest members. Smells like real apricots too.

Crabtree & Evelyn HandwashI’ve been obsessing about handwashes recently, as you’ll have got from last week’s column. I kept one back for you for this week: Crabtree & Evelyn’s Pomegranate, Argan & Grapeseed Conditioning Handwash (£14). Aside from the lovely scent, I really noticed a difference in my often raggedy cuticles when I put this by the kitchen sink.

Janjira Lime and Ginger Body ButterNow the washing’s done I have a treat for you. Janjira Thai Lime & Ginger Body Butter (£28). ‘Butter’ doesn’t do this justice – it’s lighter and dreamier than that. I actually want to climb into the pot: I wouldn’t fit but it’s a nice thought. Like Key Lime Pie for your scaly limbs. A must-try.

Docteur Renaud Raspberry Soft MaskFinally, some fruit for your face, in the form of Docteur Renaud’s Raspberry Soft Mask (£19.50). I don’t know about you but as the summer continues, I’ve found a bit of freckly patchiness appearing even though I’ve been careful with my SPFs. This is a great hydration booster and also works on pigmentation. Smells lush too. Fruit – yes. Forbidden – not so much.
