Get your beauty sleep

Sleep has always come quite easily to me but there are times after a busy day, or if I’ve been working late, when I sometimes find it hard to get to the land of nod. My brain is still whirring and it’s difficult to switch it off.

I’m not one to overlook an opportunity to solve an issue with beauty products. So over the last month or so I’ve been investigating some snooze-inducing bits and bobs to share with you – and here are my favourite five.

First up is a gorgeous bath product from The Body Shop. Deep Sleep Comforting Milk Bath Float (£14) is a great way to kick off a wind-down bedtime routine. It contains Community Fair Trade camomile essential oil and water, which come from a collection of family farms in Norfolk, and has a wonderful citrusy, soothing scent.

For a relaxing shower, I love Neom Tranquillity Bath & Shower Oil (£40). In Neom’s trials the vast majority of people had a better night’s sleep after using this scent, which is lavender – but because of the addition of basil and jasmine, it’s fresh and spa-like not all ‘granny’s knickers drawer’.

Post bath, or at any time during the day when I feel a bit wired, my go-to is Aveda Stress-Fix Composition Oil (£22). With organic lavender, lavandin (not a spelling mistake) and clary sage from the French Alps, you can use this on anything from parched hair to dry elbows and the scent will soothe you into calmness.

I always thought it would be lovely to have a face oil that helped you doze off and so I was delighted to discover Kiss The Moon, a brand from Yorkshire who create beauty products to get you in the right frame of mind for sleep. Try their Love After Dark Face Oil (£48), which contains pure Rose Absolute and Ylang Ylang to relax, frankincense to ease your worries and rosehip oil to smooth and plump your skin. Gorgeous.

Finally, just before you crash out, spritz a little of This Works new Sleep Plus Pillow Spray (£25) on your pillow and your natural night time movement will release the fragrance while you sleep. This Works have an impressive stat: ‘89% of ex-sleep prescription medication users would use this in place of sleep medication’. Amazing what a bit of lavender can do…
